How to show up in Columbia County
Surveillance is approved by people who hold public meetings any resident can attend. This page lists the bodies that do that in Columbia County, what we have confirmed about attending each one, and where each publishes its agendas.
We do not publish meeting dates. A schedule we cannot check often enough would eventually send someone to the wrong place on the wrong night. Each body below links to wherever it publishes its own agendas and schedule, and that is the copy to trust.

Columbia County Board of County Commissioners
Watch this oneCameras reach this Board as funding items rather than as purchases: an insurance pool grant, a safety reserve balance, a courthouse security fund. Watching for the word "grant" in a work session agenda catches more here than watching for the word "camera".
- When
- The Board meets most Wednesdays. Regular meetings start at 10:00 AM and work sessions at 1:00 PM, and the county's calendar is the reliable answer for which is which in a given week.
- Where
- John Gumm Building and Civic Center, 251 St. Helens Street, St. Helens, Oregon 97051. Some meetings name a room, usually Room 203, and some are held at the Columbia County Courthouse.
- Remote
- Meetings are held in hybrid form, so they can be attended remotely as well as in person, and the minutes say the recording of each meeting is posted on the county's meetings page afterwards. The joining details are published with each meeting rather than at a standing address.
- Public comment
- Agendas carry a public comment session. We did not find a written time limit, sign-up rule or deadline for this body in the meetings we read, so ask the Board office before you rely on one.

The county publishes eighteen meeting calendars on one dashboard. We read three of them, the Board of County Commissioners, the Local Public Safety Coordination Council and the Jail Operating Citizens Advisory Committee, from 2023 onward. Two cautions for anyone searching this record rather than reading it. Fourteen documents in our window are scans with no text layer and cannot be searched at all. And the text layer on the rest mangles numbers, reading a dollar sign as a 5 or an S, so any figure you find by searching should be checked against the page itself before you rely on it.
