- How many readers were bought, where they are, and how many are fixed rather than portable.
- How long a plate read is kept, and who set that period.
- Which other agencies can query Dallas County's reads, and whose reads the county can query.
- Whether a written use, audit and retention policy exists, and whether the Commissioners Court has seen it.
- What limits the auto theft grant places on using the reads for anything other than auto theft.
- How many plate readers the task force was already operating before this purchase, and since when.

An automated license plate reader photographs every passing vehicle and records the plate, the time and the place. It does not watch suspects. It logs everyone, and the record is usually kept on a vendor’s servers.
