How to show up in Hidalgo County
Surveillance is approved by people who hold public meetings any resident can attend. This page lists the bodies that do that in Hidalgo County, what we have confirmed about attending each one, and where each publishes its agendas.
We do not publish meeting dates. A schedule we cannot check often enough would eventually send someone to the wrong place on the wrong night. Each body below links to wherever it publishes its own agendas and schedule, and that is the copy to trust.

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court
Watch this oneEvery county surveillance purchase on this county's pages was approved here. Plate readers, cameras, drones and software arrive under Purchasing or under the Sheriff's Office heading; the Constables' grant items arrive under their own precinct headings; and agreements with the state highway department, with federal agencies and with other police departments arrive as memoranda of understanding and interlocal contracts. Much of it passes inside the consent agenda, the block of items approved in one motion without discussion.

- Regular session on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m., with special meetings on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. In practice the Court sits most Tuesdays: its own postings show roughly two meetings a month plus workshops. The Drainage District board, which is the same five people, meets the same mornings at 9:30 a.m., and at 1:30 p.m. on fourth Tuesdays.

- The Commissioners Courtroom, Courthouse Annex III, 100 E. Cano, 1st floor, Edinburg. The notice at the head of every agenda names this room, and some older postings name the Administration Building at the same address.

- Complete a Public Participation Form and give it to the Court Administrator before the meeting begins. Open Forum is limited to thirty minutes in total and to the first ten speakers, three minutes each; a delegation of five or more may be asked to pick one person to speak for it. To speak to a numbered agenda item instead, the limit is two minutes, or four through a translator. To get an item onto an agenda, a request has to be filed with and approved by the County Judge or at least one Commissioner by 6:00 p.m. on the Wednesday two weeks before the meeting.

The portal above is the county's own "Agendas and Minutes" link. Pick a month and year and it lists every posting: the agenda, the meeting type and, where one has been filed, the minutes. Take the minutes rather than the agenda. A Hidalgo County minutes page reprints every item in full and adds the motion, who seconded it, the vote and links to that item's backup documents, which the agenda page does not carry. Consent items are posted as their own separate meeting, headed CC CONSENT, so a reader who opens only the regular agenda will miss most of the county's purchasing. Meetings are streamed at hidalgocounty.us/HClive and the county keeps a video archive.
