How to show up in Jefferson County
Surveillance is approved by people who hold public meetings any resident can attend. This page lists the bodies that do that in Jefferson County, what we have confirmed about attending each one, and where each publishes its agendas.
We do not publish meeting dates. A schedule we cannot check often enough would eventually send someone to the wrong place on the wrong night. Each body below links to wherever it publishes its own agendas and schedule, and that is the copy to trust.

Watch this oneEvery county surveillance decision on this county's pages was made here, and every one of them was recorded with a motion, a seconder and a vote. Agreements and contract awards arrive under Purchasing; grant forms, resolutions and the Sheriff's own agreements arrive under Sheriff's Department; the budget transfers that buy constable cameras arrive under County Auditor. There is no consent block, so nothing here passes without a recorded vote.

- Every Tuesday at 10:30 in the morning unless otherwise provided. The Court's own Rules of Procedure state the weekly schedule, and the county's 2026 listing shows meetings on 37 Tuesdays. The regular meeting of each month is distinguished from the special meetings around it, and both are open.

- Public comment
- Complete a Public Participation Form and put it in the box marked for completed forms before the meeting starts. The form asks which agenda item you wish to address and whether you are for or against it. Each speaker gets three minutes, timed by the County Clerk or another designated representative, and discussion on any one item is capped at thirty minutes however many people wish to speak. Comment is tied to an agenda item. To get an item onto the agenda, a request has to be filed with and approved by at least one Commissioner or the County Judge by noon on the Thursday before the meeting.

The county runs its own agenda application rather than a vendor's, and it is unusually complete: the agenda, the minutes and a video recording for every meeting back to May 2013. The minutes document is the one to read, because it repeats each item and then records the motion, the seconder, who voted in favor and whether the item was approved, tabled or drew no action, with the item's attachments behind it. Those files are large, tens of megabytes each, because every attachment is merged in. Video of each meeting is posted after the fact; the page notes that meetings from 3 February 2026 no longer have audio because the county now provides video. There is no live stream and no remote comment.
