What we do not know

Amador County Sheriff

  • Which retention period is configured and controlling, 30 days or at least one year?
  • Which grants and partners funded the $85,500 agreement?
  • When did each reader enter service, and when does the initial contract term end?
  • What policy and safeguard revisions did the Sheriff describe as underway in August 2026?
  • What audit interval does the office use, and are aggregate audit results published?
  • Which agencies can search Amador data, and which outside reader networks can Amador users search?

What license plate readers are

An automated license plate reader photographs every passing vehicle and records the plate, the time and the place. It does not watch suspects. It logs everyone, and the record is usually kept on a vendor’s servers.
