What we do not know
Vallejo Police
- Whether any agency outside California has been granted access through the procedure the policy describes.
- The results of the annual audits, and how large the samples actually were.
- How many cameras the department operates now and where they sit.
- Which of the two reachable plate reader policies the department treats as current.
What license plate readers are
An automated license plate reader photographs every passing vehicle and records the plate, the time and the place. It does not watch suspects. It logs everyone, and the record is usually kept on a vendor’s servers.
